From games and collage to quantum computing and XR, I work across immersive and interactive media to create memorable experiences. Bio
Andrew W. Smith, M.S., is a creative technologist and researcher focused on designing experiences that make technology more human, participatory, and thought-provoking. His work bridges research, games, and immersive media to explore how technology can be used to make life more playful, interactive, and fun.
His recent projects include LiteraryDJ, a remix platform for music, computational writing, natural language processing, and quantum computing; Energy, a board game about climate change and energy policy; BlackType, an emerging typography and design project; and Material Conditions, a digital art and virtual gallery series.
Andrew has collaborated on public humanities and archival projects including Solidarity Book Project, Black COVID Care, Project STAND, Lakeland Digital Archive, and Database of Early English Playbooks. He has held residencies and fellowships with Snap Inc., the University of Maryland College Park, and Amherst College, and was part of the inaugural 2024-2025 cohort of Arts for All Faculty Fellows at UMD. His writing and digital work have appeared in Michigan Quarterly Review, The New River, Scholarly Editing, Voidspace, SUPERJUMP, and other venues. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Amherst College and his Masters of Science in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Maryland College Park.
